28 FEET - our solo autobiographical show inspired by Jonathan Mirin's 20 year battle with Crohn's disease - to Greenfield for a free performance at Greenfield Community Television on July 1st at 5:30 pm. It will be followed by an arts workshop for people touched by chronic illness. Do you have diabetes, heart disease, inflammatory bowel disease or another chronic illness? If so – or if you know someone who does – don’t miss Jonathan Mirin’s fiercely funny and deeply stirring solo performance “28 FEET.” Based on his 20 years combating Crohn’s Disease, the performance takes you on a wild ride of original songs, puppetry, clowning, 18+ characters and a high energy, physical performance. Greenfield Community Television, 393 Main Street, Greenfield, 5:30 pm. Performance followed by an arts workshop for people touched by chronic illness. Calling all kids ages 8-11! Come learn about the Silvio O. Conte National Fish & Wildlife Refuge! Earn your very own U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service Junior Refuge Manager badge by completing our Junior Refuge Manager academy! This program will run each Tuesday in July (6th, 13th, 20th, and 27th) from 10:30 am to 12 pm. Activities will include: make your own fossils, fossil hunt, tree tag, aquatic insect investigation, animal track scavenger hunt and identification. All activities will be held rain or shine. Bring appropriate clothing, water, sun screen, and bug spray. There is a maximum of 12 children so pre-register early at 413-863-3221. All children must be accompanied by an adult. The Memorial Hall Theater in Shelburne Falls continues its program of summer hi-definition re-broadcasts from the Metropolitan Opera in New York with a showing of Tchaikovski’s Eugene Onegin. Tchaikovsky’s setting of Pushkin’s masterpiece is one of the most romantic and lyrical works ever written for the stage. Valery Gergiev conducts, and Renée Fleming and Dmitri Hvorostovsky star in this moving tale of mistimed love. The Memorial Hall Theater is a 420-seat former opera house located at 51 Bridge Street in Shelburne Falls. Admission is $15 for adults and $5 for students.   Junior Ranger Program
Starting July 8st and ending July 29nd, the Great Falls Discovery Center in Turners Falls is offering a four-part science and nature education workshop for children as part of their 2010 Junior Ranger “Nature Kids” program. “Nature Kids,” is for young naturalists ages five through seven, will meet July 8, 15, 22, and 29. Children and parents should meet at the Discovery Center lobby at 2 Avenue A, Turners Falls. All programs will start at 10:30 am and will last about 90 minutes.   "Journeys", Year-end images by Hallmark's Class of 2010
Hallmark Institute of Photography is proud to announce "Journeys," a new exhibit showcasing images produced by members of the 2010 graduating class of Hallmark Institute of Photography. The exhibit features a stunning range of dynamic and creative work produced by the students over the course of their intensive 10 months of photographic training. The show opens Friday, June 11 at the Gallery at Hallmark, located in the Colle Opera House at 85 Avenue A in historic downtown Turners Falls. This exhibition marks the end of a thrilling journey for these Hallmark students, who came to Turners Falls from 33 different U.S. states as well as 10 countries, including India, Brazil, France, Canada, the Philippines, Colombia, Italy, El Salvador, Romania, and China. It also marks a beginning - having taken those first steps a mere 10 months ago, these students are now poised to begin their voyage into the professional world of photography and imaging arts. "Journeys" will be on display Fridays through Sundays 1:00 to 5:00pm through June 27, and again July 9 - 11. The Gallery will be closed July 2 - 4.

  Crafts of Colrain Summer Fair
For the first time Crafts of Colrain presents a summer fair at Hagers’ Farm Stand on the Mohawk Trail (Route 2). Stop by and discover why Colrain is “The town the inspires the artists.”
The hammering of metals, the rhythmic click of the loom, the buzz of the saw, the rustle of fabric beckon visitors to share the inspiration that stimulates Colrain’s artists. Ruth works on her latest quilt masterpiece, Leigh fashions another metal trellis for a garden lover, Cynthia stirs her homegrown mohair in colorful dyes and Joe captures the beauty of the surrounding hills. “Shop for our treasures and share our inspiration,” invites Pacifico “Tony” Palumbo.

Historic Deerfield welcomes homeschooling families to join us for an educational program that investigates the Deerfield River, and how it has uniquely shaped the Deerfield landscape. A guide from Northfield Mountain will teach the skill of "orienteering" so that you can navigate the land using a compass and map. Go on a River Ecology Quest through the village to the water's edge, learning about our ecosystems as you go. Visit three historic buildings to learn about the ways the river and surrounding fertile land shaped life for Deerfield residents over time. Learn about the fish that were plentiful in the river, and make a project to take home. Space is limited. Pre-registration is required by Friday, July 9. Calling all kids ages 8-11! Come learn about the Silvio O. Conte National Fish & Wildlife Refuge! Earn your very own U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service Junior Refuge Manager badge by completing our Junior Refuge Manager academy! This program will run each Tuesday in July (6th, 13th, 20th, and 27th) from 10:30 am to 12 pm. Activities will include: make your own fossils, fossil hunt, tree tag, aquatic insect investigation, animal track scavenger hunt and identification. All activities will be held rain or shine.
